Sorry I haven’t tumbled in a while. I moved my site to another server. It was time to expand. You can catch my post now at the new http://djblvd.com.
I’ll forward my site posts to my Tumblr friends.

I’ve been djing for close to 10 years now. In DJ terms, that’s a relatively short time. However, I came in at a time when DJing was just starting to revolutionize. I learned my craft on vinyl and cds. I vividly recall the days when I would lug around 4 record crates and 3 cd cases to each mobile gig along with my speakers, amps, lights, stands, tables, mixer, players, etc… Like other djs, I just wanted to make things simpler. Then I got a laptop and found Serato. No more record crates. No more cd cases. Half of the weight of my equipment was GONE!!! All of my music was at my fingertips. Things got simpler. As time went on, I found other things to make my rig simpler. Powered monitors. LED lights that link to each other. Just recently, I purchases the Novation Twitch for Serato Itch. A controller that will, in a sense, replace my turntables and mixer. I am a DJ that is smack dab in the middle of the Vinyl/Digital controversy. I am a turntablist and a controllerist… and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love music and the art of djing and I want to master it all. I want to show everyone that it doesn’t matter type of gear you use, as long as you can rock the crowd!!!
I love music. I love music for everything it is and everything it isn’t. I love music not just for the beats and rhymes or the 1’s and the 2’s, but for everything else in the middle. No matter how much you quantize or synchronize, music is more than just a kick and a snare. Music the ride symbol tapping, the slap bass bapping, the clicks and pops of an analog record and smooth soulful voice of Etta James. That may be a story for another time, but there is no doubt in my mind that there isn’t a single female vocalist today that was not inspired by Ms. Etta James. But I digress… Music is in everything and everyone. From the ringing of a phone or the popping of some gum. Whatever gets your ears tuned and acute and warms your heart and soothes your soul, just let it be a reflection of you. The perfectly imperfect you.
I Googled myself the other day (no pun intended) and found a blog post on Domeshots & Fat Laces
referring to my set, “Good Music Monday: Live From The Bamboo Club.”
Here’s what the editor had to say:
“This live mix from 2009 demonstrates Blvd got some style. You don’t hear deejays rocking a Jurassic 5 tune in club very often so this mix is pretty grand for the selection of tunes alone.” - The Dynamic Hamza 21
I love getting validation from people that have been around the industry longer than I have. The Dynamic Hamza has been a Dj since 1985, so I know he has a sharp ear. I am honored to have caught his attention.
The follow up to the critically acclaimed BReaBlvd Vol. 1 will definitely not disappoint. This sequel takes the action up 5 notches and to a whole new location… The Pool! That’s right! This mix is designed to delight the sunbathing masses at your pool party! So don’t let them down. Download BReaBlvd Vol. 2: Poolside TODAY!!!
It was a good day a few weeks ago when I found out that one of my mixes was going to be featured on Mixcrate. It was Great when I went on the site today to find TWO of my mixes on the homepage and to learn that they selected me as a featured DJ!
Look out for BReaBlvd Vol. 1 to shoot up on the Mixcrate.com Most Played list. It will be featured as a Pick of the Week beginning on The 4th of July.
Since Beezo.net does not look to be coming back online anytime soon, I had to find a new home to serve my mixtapes. That place is Mixcrate. It is a nice, simple website that does a GREAT job of featuring and supporting DJ’s. BReaBlvd Vol. 1 is already up on the site and is doing well. It’s been chosen as a site “Pick of the Week” and will be featured on their homepage beginning July 4. I hope to serve up many, many more great sets for them.

I’ll be opening this Friday at Cantina Lounge… I guess you gotta get there early to hear what I gotta play.
If you are a fan of hip hop music, and I mean real hip hop music (not that cat daddy, jerkin, soulja boy bullshit), then you need to get DJ Quik’s new album. It is musically fantastic. If you’re a fan of Charlie Wilson, Funkadelic and West Coast Hip Hop, you will love this album. Here is a sample of the great stuff you’ll hear on The Book of David. Listen to the whole track. You won’t really appreciate what Quik is doing unless you do!
